On behalf of Maui County Veterans Council (MCVC), we would like to invite you and announce the upcoming “Memorial Day Ceremony”, to be held at Makawao Veterans Cemetery, Monday, May 28, 2018 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. This Honorary event is sponsored by Maui County Veterans Council (MCVC) and the County of Maui. 

There are a few special events prior to the Ceremony as follows; Friday morning, May 25th, from 9:00 am to noon, Volunteers’ co-hosted by Kaunoa Senior Services, the Department of Housing and Human Concerns, and the Office of Mayor Alan Arakawa, will have the “Blossoms for the Brave”, Annual Lei-making event in front of the County Building for the thousands of graves at Makawao Veterans Cemetery. Saturday morning, May 26th, the Boys Scouts and their Dad’s will be decorating all the gravesites with the United States Flag provided by MCVC, and Sunday morning May 27th, the Girls Scouts will be placing all of the lei’s on the graves. 

This year, we are honored to have the “Dedication of the Vietnam War Monument”, and host a Special Ceremony and Blessing, Monday, May 28th, starting at 8:30 a.m. Our Emcee will be Janna Hoehn (Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund) and MCVC Secretary. She tirelessly volunteers for our Veterans and was very significant in heading the project of acquiring the Monument. We encourage all Vietnam Veterans and their families to attend. 

The Memorial Day Ceremony will begin at 9:00 a.m. This year’s theme is “FALLEN YET NOT FORGOTTEN”, and our Emcee is Kathy Collins from 107.5 radio station. The program will include; Music by, King Kekaulike High School Band led by Casey Nagata, Maui Firefighter’s singing National and Hawaii Anthems, and special guest Melemai Kapu’uwaimai from Honolulu. Floral Tribute’s will be provided by various Organizations, Reading of the Veterans’ Names who passed this year that are buried at the cemetery, 10,000 roses petals “Shower of Flowers” dropped by Blue Hawaiian Helicopter onto the Veterans graves, Guest Speakers, Maui Wedding Cake’s providing Doves to be release for a sign of peace. Maui Army National Guard presenting Color Guard and Twenty-one gun salute. 

Also on behalf of MCVC, refreshments will be served before and after the Ceremonies by Maui Sons & Daughters of Nisei Veterans and the Chrysanthemum Ball Court as lei greeters for our special guest. Na Koa Kahiko Wahine (NKKW) that day will assist with the program. Additional parking is available across the street courtesy of Maui Land & Pine and parking is assisted by the Korean War Veterans. Last year we had several in attendance, we sincerely appreciate all who supported us…
